Deron Williams stars as New Jersey Nets down Golden State Warriors 107-100 - NBA Recap
New Jersey Nets are having a disappointing season so far.
They are a good team and have fought well in all the games but seem to lack the killer instinct - which differentiates good teams from the outstanding ones.
However, they took a step in the right direction just few hours ago as they collected their fourth win of the season by pushing the accelerator down the stretch in a game against the Golden State Warriors.
It was an exciting encounter and both teams fought outstandingly throughout.
With 9 minutes remaining in the game, the Warriors were in the driving seat, ahead by 92-87, however they were in for a surprise as all the big guns from Nets combined and rattled a magnificent 20-8 spurt, stunning their opponents to collect an outstanding win.
Deron Williams led the Nets with 24 points on a perfect 8 for 8 from the charity stripe and 10 assists while the rookie MarShon Brooks, who has already impressed every one with his all round abilities in his young career, finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
"We played real well off each other," said Brooks. "Deron was finding me and I was looking for him. Deron was driving and kicking and I was getting it into the paint. Our fans deserve this. Hearing them cheer really meant a lot. Sure, we had a day off and slept in our own beds, but the fans helped us out with energy."
Kris Humphries netted 18 points and pulled down 15 boards while Mehmet Okur bundled 13 including 3-for-7 from the long range. Reserves Anthony Morrow and Shelden Williams finished with 13 and 10 points respectively.
The Nets shot 50% from the floor and outclassed the Warriors 45-25 in the rebounds.
Monta Ellis paced the Warriors with a game high 30 points on 11 for 20 from inside the arc whereas Dorell Wright accumulated 17 points. David Lee and Klay Thompson scored 12 apiece.
Warriors coach Mark Jackson, who was missing the services of Stephen Curry, was naturally disappointed with the defeat and blamed the team’s poor defence for the loss.
"It's a disappointing loss. We had the game won. Bottom line, if you don't close out quarters or possessions, it will come back to bite you. They outworked us, beat us on the boards (45-25) and have no excuses.”
