Derrick Rose attends charity game; Talks about future – NBA Update
Reigning regular season MVP and Chicago Bulls super star Derrick Rose attended a charity game in Houston on Sunday. The point guard, who did not play in the game, spoke briefly about his plans for the future.
"I'm not going anywhere, I'm good," Rose said.
The game in Houston was arranged by former player and coach John Lucas. Several NBA players took part in the game including Luis Scola of the Houston Rockets, DeAndre Jordan of the Los Angeles Clippers as well as Memphis Grizzlies
star forward Zach Randolph.
The presence of Derrick Rose added further star power to the event as many fans lined up for his signature. The player was inevitably asked to comment on his future, with speculation high that he too is considering playing overseas
in the face of devastating lockout.
Rose however played down such talk, insisting he wasn’t interested in playing anywhere else but in the United States.
The point guard was tremendous last season when he became the youngest player to win the MVP award. He also led the Chicago Bulls to the best record in the NBA and reached the Eastern Conference Finals.
It has been suggested that Rose would be wasting a very precious year of his basketball life due to the lockout, especially with him on such a rise at the moment. The player though is content to staying in shape and hoping a season
can be salvaged.
"I'm just trying to stay in a nice place where you never know what will happen, or what can happen, what will happen. Now, I'm trying to keep myself in nice shape, and stay positive. Hopefully, we'll have a season”
The hope for a season though is fast fading, with the National Basketball Players Association having taken the NBA owners to court after rejecting NBA Commissioner David Stern’s ultimatum last Monday.
On the brighter side, NBA starved basketball fans finally got a taste of some action on the night as players put on a thrilling display. Young star Kenneth Faried, a first-round pick this summer by the Denver Nuggets, provided
a number of memorable moments for fans with his exhilarating display.
The rookie, who hasn’t played an NBA game so far because of the lockout, was happy to get some game-time with NBA level athletes.
"It's very helpful, getting a feel for the game and how guys play," Faried said.
DeAndre Jordan also enjoyed himself on the court on Sunday. The centre claimed it was vital for NBA players to have these sort of games in order to keep in shape.
"It's good to get some live work in, some action," Jordan said. "Working out an individual drills is not the same as going against a body and getting that real conditioning."
The game was attended by almost 5,400 people.
