Derrick Rose carries Chicago Bulls to a 96-91 win over Philadelphia 76ers - NBA Recap
Reigning MVP, Derrick Rose once again proved that he is the best player in his team and one of the best finishers in the league.
On Sunday night, in what was an exciting battle between Chicago Bulls and the Philadelphia 76ers, Rose drilled a crucial jumper down the stretch to guide his team to a close 96-91 win.
Rose was phenomenal throughout the 48 minutes and led the Bulls with a game high 35 points on 12 for 23 from the floor including 4 for 7 from the long range, 4 boards and 8 assists. Carlos Boozer recorded 13 points and grabbed
7 rebounds while Joakim Noah completed a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down 18 boards. Bulls shot 47.6% from the floor.
Reserve Thaddeus Young paced the 76ers with 17 points on 5 for 7 from the charity stripe and 9 boards. Jrue Holiday pounded 16 points while Elton Brand, Andre Iguodala and Nikola Vucevic amassed 14 points each including a combined
27 boards between them.
The 76ers struggled with their shooting throughout and finished with only 39.2% from the floor. However they held the upper hand in the boards, out-rebounding the Bulls (50-45).
The game started at a quick pace. Both teams fired right from the start and were neck to neck at 16 all in the first 7 minutes. Bulls scored quickly in the next few minutes to acquire a 23-20 lead and maintained it until the end
of the frame, finishing at 26-24.
The Sixers started the second frame with a 14-6 burst to steal the momentum, getting ahead by 38-32. The run allowed them to dominate the remaining quarter and to end the first half with a 6 point lead 46-40.
The third quarter was highly competitive. The 76ers dominated early and were ahead 54-48, however in the next few minutes, the Bulls changed gears and raced away to a 12-4 run to take a 60-58 lead. Phillies however, did not let
Bulls run away with the show and scored quickly to end an exciting quarter tying the game at 64 entering the last frame.
Bulls initiated a game changing 17-4 burst, capped by Luol Deng’s layup, at the start of the deciding frame to push the game away from 76ers. With almost 4 minutes remaining in the game, the Bulls were cruising to a win, ahead
by 87-78; however they were in for a surprise as the 76ers replied with an 11-4 spurt to open up the game at 89-91.
It was then when Rose drilled a decisive layup and Noah used three free throws in the last few moments to seal the game for Bulls.
