Derrick Rose drills a buzzer beater; Leads Chicago Bulls over Milwaukee Bucks in a thriller – NBA Recap
Up against a spirited Milwaukee Bucks side on Wednesday night, Chicago Bulls talisman Derrick Rose reminded the NBA world exactly why he was the MVP last season.
On a night, he flirted with a triple double – 30 points, 11 assists and 8 rebounds - the charismatic point guard drilled a 20 foot dagger right at the buzzer to lead the Bulls to a 106-104 win.
"I love it. As a kid, those are the things you dream about. It felt good.” Derrick Rose on taking and making the last shot said. “You're on the road, playing against a team that's giving you their all, and you hit a nice shot like that.”
Joakim Noah had a good night with 20 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots while Carlos Boozer had 15 for the Bulls, who shot 43-of-83 from the floor.
With the win, Chicago extended their winning streak to 8 and also swept the season series against Milwaukee, who had a big night from Ersan Ilyasova. The third year 6ft 10 low post sensation dropped a game high 32 points on 14-of-18 and also hauled down 10 rebounds, including 6 on the offensive board. Drew Gooden had 27 points and 6 rebounds while Brandon Jennings and Mike Dunleavy had 11 apiece for the Bucks, who have now fallen to 18-23 into the season.
Rose heroics put a damper on an otherwise exceptional performance on the Bucks. They choked the Bulls throughout – Rose’s 8-of-22 shooting was a testament of sorts – and had Jennings recovered to a Rose fake before making the clutch shot, the Bucks would have taken the game to overtime. Once in that territory, the result could have gone either way.
The game was tight affair right from the word go. It was tied 4 times inside the first four minutes and the lead changed hands 10 times before Chicago enetered the last three minutes with a 25-24 advantage. Bulls stretched to the lead to 5, but an Udrih layup, moments before the buzzer made it 30-33.
The Bucks made it a one point game early in the second and after the Bulls scored 8 consecutive points, the host raced away to a 14-2 run, capped by a triple form Ersan, to take a 46-43 lead. Chicago responded with yet another 8-0 spurt and carved out a 55-50 lead at halftime.
Both teams failed to put the ball in the cup in the first 2:30 of the third, but then the shots started falling and that too at quite a pace. After some end-to-end action with Bulls were leading by 71-65 deep, but the Bucks reeled off an 8-2 to run to make it a 73-all game, entering the last 12 minutes.
With Ilyasova on the charge, the Bucks matched the Bulls in the 4th and with 3:46 left on the clock, they were leading by 95-93. In the next two minutes, Jennings missed three shots on a trot allowing the Bulls to pull away with a 9-3 burst for a 102-97 lead.
Udrih fought back for the Bucks with three consecutive free throws followed by a layup, tying the game at 102. Two Rose free throws later, Ilyasova slipped in a layup to level the game again.
All the Bucks effort however went down the drain as Rose knocked down a chiller down their spine.
