Derrick Rose foresees Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant as the MVP this NBA season
With the close of NBA regular season just around the corner, the reigning MVP Derrick Rose has put his weight behind Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant for the prestigious award this season.
It takes an MVP to know what it takes to reach the landmark and there can be no better peer for this judgment than Rose, who was crowned MVP at the age of 22. The Chicago Bulls talisman is however most likely to be ousted as he
is facing an injury prone season, having missed17 games so far. But, Rose sees the next MVP in Durant;
“KD (Kevin Durant) is playing great...I’m hearing about what he’s doing, hearing about how he’s playing. The numbers speak for itself, how he’s working out this summer, and he’s playing great basketball”.
KD’s numbers speak for themselves. Before the game against the Bulls on Sunday, the 23 year old forward was averaging 27.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, starting all of the 51 games he played for the Western Conference
leaders.
The definition of the route to the MVP award is blurred and to get the award, one doesn’t have to be the best player in the season. One can be a best player in the league but there is always a chance his team would do fine without
him. On the contrary, a player might not be considered as the best in the league but if his team shows incredible improvement under him, he will get the MVP.
No one knows this better than Rose, whose impact last season, took the Bulls to new heights and despite of LeBron James’ superior numbers, he got the nod for the award. James is once again a formidable contender for MVP this season.
The King from Miami is averaging 26.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game in this season, shooting a just below 37% from down town and around 54% from the field.
However, James is not the only star player in the Heat. Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh also form part of the incredible big three and whatever success Miami will have this season, it will be shared. The individual impact on the team
factor thus goes out of the equation as far as James is concerned.
The same can be argued for KD, who has Russell Westbrook by his side, but considering the fact that at the end of the day, it is fan’s vote that determines the final outcome, KD does have an edge over LeBron. The simple reason
for that is that James has already won the MVP twice in his career and people love to see a different face, a change in short.
The fact that James is still struggling to rebuild his reputation, which was tarnished when he moved to Miami, also goes into Durant’s favour.
