Former MVP says he talked to Hinrich before he was recruited to familiarize him of the Bulls mindset ....
As the trend of the having multiple superstars in the same team catches on in the NBA, the stars are going to get more and more power over the team and will even have a huge say in the players the team reaches out to.
We have already seen many examples of this type of player power and influence in the NBA. When LeBron James was making his decision to choose his new team back in 2010, Dwyane Wade sat down with him and had numerous discussions
before they decided to join the Miami Heat.
Chris Paul took over General Manager responsibilities temporarily for the Los Angeles Clippers this summer, when he persuaded Chauncey Billups to stay put and also helped with the team’s other recruitment efforts.
It seems like the Chicago Bulls All Star point guard Derrick Rose is learning the tricks of the trade as well, as he attempts to take him team into the new era of superstars while being the only superstar on his team.
Rose is slowly realizing that it is becoming increasingly difficult to win an NBA title in this league with the philosophy that him and Tom Thibodeau cherish so much. Hence, he got into action in the offseason and helped the team
recruit Kirk Hinrich to the Chicago Bulls.
Aggrey Sam of CSNChicago.com reports that Rose had discussions with Hinrich during the summer, before Hinrich had made his decision and convinced him to come to the Bulls.
“Is Kirk the first person I recruited? Yeah, I think Kirk’s the first person I recruited,” said Derrick Rose.
“We talked a couple times on the phone during free agency, just asking questions, talking a little bit and seeing how he was feeling,” added Hinrich.
Rose is not a classic recruiter because it is not in his personality. He did not reach out to Dwyane Wade or LeBron James during the 2010 free agency, even though both had Chicago as one of their prospective teams. However, he
now realizes that he needs to communicate with prospective players that the organization is looking to recruit to see if they are on the same page and what adjustment both players need to make to ensure success for the team.
With the Bulls clearing up cap space to land a major talent in the coming few seasons, all this will be good practice for Rose.
