Derrick Rose might miss the All Star game - NBA Update
Reigning MVP and Chicago Bulls talisman Derrick Rose has now missed four consecutive games due to back spasms.
On Wednesday, the Chicago Bulls star revisited a specialist, whom he earlier visited on Monday, to check his back’s status and although, the reports now suggest that he is fit, the celebrated point guard did not take part in the
all important game against the Boston Celtics. The game was ultimately won by the Bulls 89-80.
Through their approach, the Bulls have made it very clear that they are trying to preserve Rose and the star player might even be missing the All Star game that is going to be played on February 26th in Orlando.
Coach Tom Thibodeau recently said that he and the team are monitoring Rose's situation closely and the final decision to play him in the All Star game would be based on his fitness.
"We'll see where (the back situation) is when we get there," Thibodeau said. We just want to do what's best. We don't know how it will be. That's down the road."
Tom has been criticized for not using Rose too smartly this season. There is a general consensus that, given the jam packed season, Tom should have rested Rose in outings against the weaker opponents and his persistence with the
guard might have aggravated the injury.
Rose admitted that the problem in his back started in the game against Milwaukee Bucks and even then he played the next game against New Jersey Nets which triggered the pain.
However, Thibodeau, who was the 'NBA Coach of the Year' last season, defended his policy;
"I don't believe in the thing about sitting a guy out because it's this opponent or that opponent," Thibodeau said.
"If a guy is injured, he sits out regardless of who you're playing. If he's hurting and can play and can't do further damage, then he plays. But we are going to be smart with him. If he needs rest, we're going to rest him. Like
I said, we feel very good about our bench and the guys that we have”
However, Tom went on to indicate that Rose would be treated with extreme care in future, making himself clear that unless Rose does not get fully fit, he would not be playing. The All-Star game prospects therefore seem slim as
of now.
