Derrick Rose misses 7th consecutive game due to groin injury – NBA Update
On Monday night, Chicago Bulls talisman Derrick Rose missed his 7th consecutive game against the Denver Nuggets and although the Bulls have done quite well without the point guard in the recent past, on the night, they
were simply blown away by the Nuggs.
Rose suffered a right groin injury in the game against New York Knicks on March 12, when he was intercepted by Jeremy Lin from behind in a fast-break layup attempt. He remained in the game bearing the initial pull which made the
matter worse.
“In the New York [game], when I went to the hole, I took off kind of wrong and Jeremy [Lin] beat my shot. I thought I was going to take off but I couldn’t get up that high. When I went down, I tried to stretch out but there was
pain there.”
Rose has played a pivotal role in carrying Chicago to a 40-10 record even though he had to pay a very high cost. He has suffered three injuries so far this season, starting from a turf toe, back spasms and now an injured groin.
The total game he has missed so far are 17, with the Bulls winning 12.
The 23 year old reigning NBA MVP’s determination can never be questioned. Once on the court he will fight through any sort of pain but Bulls can’t afford to put him in harm’s way, especially in the shortened season. They are already
the first team through to the playoffs and can afford to give Rose as much rest as they want.
On Sunday, Rose continued his rehabilitation practice at Berto Center but was not able to move freely, which led Tom Thibodeau to announce his absence in the Monday’s game.
When the coach was asked if Rose could run he said.
"Very little," but he's at the next phase. (He's) just starting off with the running on a treadmill."
However Rose was optimistic about his recovery.
"(I'm feeling) way better, (when the injury occurred) I was actually bleeding, my groin was bleeding, but now it's healed. It's just scar tissue and it's pretty hard trying to get that to move around, it's going to take little
time”.
With 22.8 points, 8.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game in this season, the fourth year PG is the most gifted point guards of his generation. It was his brilliance that took the Bulls to the Eastern Conference Finals last season
and a rejuvenated and rested Rose might just be the ingredient, Chicago requires to dismantle other Eastern elites this time around.
