Derrick Rose career-high 42 supplied Chicago Bulls a magnificent victory 109-99 over the leading NBA team of the season, the San Antonio Spurs at United Center, Chicago, IL on Thursday night.
When the game started the 22 year old superstar grabbed the microphone and expressed his gratitude to the fans for choosing him Chicago’s first All-Star starter since Michael Jordan in 1998.
"We have a lot of confidence right now, knowing we can beat some of the best teams in the NBA," Rose said. "We just have to keep it going." He then went on justify their decision.
Loul Deng had 19 points while Carlos Boozer ended with 15 to support Rose as Bulls earned their seventh straight home victory. Thursday night’s success enabled Bulls to carry a victory over each team in the Western Conference this season. T. Parker scored a team-high 26 for Spurs as all of his efforts went in vain against the scoring machine for the night Derrick Rose.
Rose and Boozer combined for 19 points in the first quarter to provide the home team 5 points lead. Three 3-pointer shots from Spurs in the first period couldn’t overcome the lead once Bulls took the advantage.
Watson opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 3-pointer as the home team restricted the Spurs to reach the basket in the initial two minutes. Spurs lifted the momentum to cut down the deficit however Rose line-up sustained their position and took 58-51 lead as the game progressed into the first half.
Chicago Bulls laid a strong defense for the opposition leaving no room for the visiting team to surpass. The third quarter depicted a strong confrontation from Spurs as the home team kept their momentum intact. Bulls exceeded the lead with one more point with the end of the third period and the home team entered the final quarter with 8 points advantage.
The Bulls scored 9 points in the first three minutes of the final period to build their biggest lead of the game 92-78. Derrick Rose went inexorable in the defining moments of the play scoring 13 points of his 42 as the home team gathered a comfortable 109-99 victory.
Bulls triumph guided the number of defeats for Spurs into the double figures for the season. San Antonio Spurs stand with the most number of wins and sustained their first spot throughout. This was their 10th defeat with 8 on the road and only 2 at their home court following 46 wins.
