Derrick Rose rested, D-League Mike James in - NBA Update
Without a doubt, the Chicago Bulls possess one of the best rosters in the league but there is one player solely responsible for their success in recent years- Derrick Rose.
Just 23 years old at the moment, Rose has already established himself as one of the best players in the league. For his phenomenal performance last season, he was awarded the NBA’s Most Valuable Player accolade, and the way he is going at the moment, chances
are that he would make it two in two years.
Just to make sure he plays the complete season, Coach Tom Thibodeau has decided to rest him for next few games and has added current D-league giant Mike James, who has played at the big stage for more than a decade, in his place.
Rose injured his toe in Bulls win against Minnesota Timberwolves just two days ago due to a collision between him and Timberwolves Anthony Tolliver in the ending minutes of the last quarter. Although he did complete the game, afterwards he was spotted with
a walking boot in the dressing room.
Fortunately for him and the team, the injury is not a serious one and according to Tom, the move to rest Rose is a cautionary one.
"We're not going to take any chances," Thibodeau said. "The way he plays, most guys, particularly your big guys, they're going to get banged up. We're not going to risk injury if a guy can do further damage, we're not taking that chance. But if a guy's nicked
up, he's going to play.. Derrick's a tough guy, he knows how to handle things and we just felt like in this situation tonight, the best thing is for him not to play and then we'll address it tomorrow and see how he's feeling. We're not going to take a chance
on him having further injury”
So with him Rose out for the next 3-5 games probably, James has a good chance to make an impression right away, because he is in supreme form at the moment.
36 years old James is an experienced campaigner and before moving to D-League, he had already played for 10 prominent NBA teams- quite an achievement in itself.
James last played for Washington Wizards in the 2010-11 season and after he failed to make any sort of an impact, he was waived by the Wizards. After that, he joined a Turkish Club team Aliaga Petkim but left it in few months and became a part of a development
league team Erie Bayhawks.
His stint with the Bayhawks has been mighty successful so far and that is the reason he was approached by Thibodeau. It will be interesting to see how successful his mini comeback in the NBA turns out to be.
