The former MVP opens up about the disappointment he had to go through after the fateful ACL injury last post season
Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose is back to the gym, working out for the first time since April when he tore his ACL in the game 1 of the first round playoffs series against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The former MVP remembers each and everything about his injury as if it happened yesterday. In an interview last month, Rose contemplated on the incident and described it as being close to death.
“I remember it,” Rose said. “I remember everything. I remember jumping in the air and coming back down, and just that popping sound. I felt it actually tear when I laid all the way out and it just let go.”
“I couldn’t believe it. That’s the closest thing to death, the closest to death I’ve got to right there, where it just seemed like the wind and everything was taken out [of me].” – Rose
Describing the injury in such a serious manner does come as much of a surprise. Rose had suffered from multiple injuries throughout the regular season, missing 27 of the 66 games in it. The game against the Phillies was his first one back, and disaster struck in the dying minutes of the game. His exit pretty much closed the post season chapter for the Bulls and they lost out in 6 games.
As an explosive point guard in the NBA, Rose is renowned for his leaping ability and his dashes to the rim. But with a knocked up knee, the player may have to be careful in the future which can affect the way how he plays the game in near future.
However, the major difficult time is over now. Rose seems to have absorbed the whole matter and is working to his maximum in a bid to be fully fit for next season.
“It seemed like I wasted a year. I remember when I was having all those injuries, I was just thinking, ‘All right, I’ll be ready for the playoffs.’ First game of the playoffs, tear my ACL; can’t stay mad or irritated for months. I can’t do that. It’ll bring me down.”
At the moment, no certain date can be signalled out as his possible return but he is bound to miss at least an early chunk of next season.
