Derrick Rose set to be named MVP
A source in the National Basketball Association (NBA), familiar with the Most Valuable Player  (MVP) award results, has revealed on the condition of anonymity that
Derrick Rose will be named the MVP on Tuesday. The MVP award for Rose will only be the 2nd time a Chicago Bulls player has bagged the prestigious honour. Michael Jordan was the other player with 5 trophies.
Derrick Rose, Chicago born and bred, will also be the youngest MVP in NBA history. The 22-year old point guard will break the record set by Wes Unseld, who won the
Rookie of the Year and the MVP, at the age of 23, playing for the Baltimore Bullets back in 1968-69.
Rose takes over from two time winner LeBron James, and had this to say when asked about the possibility of being named MVP recently, “If I get it? It’ll be nice,
unbelievable, a goal that in the beginning in the year I said I wanted to achieve, It would be huge, not only for me, but for the city.”
Derrick Rose was most people’s choice for the MVP after a season that has seen a transformation for the Bulls player. Derrick Rose has come on leaps and bounds in
his 3 years at the Chicago Bulls and his progression has been recognized each year. He won ‘Rookie of the Year’ two years ago, then became the first Bulls All-Star since Michael Jordan and now has won the biggest individual accolade, MVP.
His personal game has seen a marked difference since the rookie year. Rose has added perimeter shooting to his game as has also improved greatly from the field. His
ability to drive down the lane and his eye for a pass has repeatedly ravaged defences this season. His points average has improved by around 4 points every year. Starting off with 16.8 in the rookie season, Rose managed 20.8 in his sophomore year and this
year he has averaged 25.0 in the regular season.
Chicago has been crying out for a saviour since Jordan’s retirement and could not have wished for a better one then Derrick Rose. Rose hails from Chicago and has
become the symbol of his town’s aspirations. He has awed the United Center crowd all season long with his dazzling displays and clutch performances.
The journey for Rose began at the start of the season when Coach Tom Thibodeau arrived from Boston in the summer alongside Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver. The foundations
of a good team were laid then, but no one could have predicted the season, Chicago or Derrick Rose have had. Going from a 41 game winning side, Chicago suddenly transformed into a 62-20 record team this season. Their leader and top performer has been Derrick
Rose, who has made all the difference.
In the post season Rose continues to be his team’s trump card. He exploded in the first two games of the playoff series against the Indiana Pacers, scoring 39 and
36 as Chicago grinded out the results. Derrick then brushed aside an ankle injury to lead Chicago into the semi-finals in the 116-89 game-5 win.
The city of Chicago is abuzz with anticipation right now and it will be a deserved win for Derrick Rose when the announcement is made sometime on Tuesday. Rose will
be presented with the MVP award at the United Center before game-2 of Chicago’s series against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday.
