Derrick Rose shines as Chicago Bulls edge out New York Knicks 105 – 102 – NBA Recap
The Chicago Bulls won against the New York Knicks after an exciting encounter at the Madison Square Garden 105 – 102. Reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose starred for the Bulls as they held off strong resistance from the Knicks to get the victory.
Rose was terrific on the night as he continued his good run of form and scored a team high 32 points. The guard was also Chicago’s playmaker in chief as he dished out 13 assists. Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver played their part with 16 points each while Boozer also had 9 rebounds. Joakim Noah narrowly missed out on a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 9 boards.
The Knicks put up a valiant fight and were bolstered by the awe inspiring performance of Amar’e Stoudemire. The power forward was dominant on the night and finished with a game high 34 points and 11 rebounds for his double-double.
Carmelo Anthony was also among the points with 26, but he could have done better with his field goal percentage. Guard Landry field was the last Knicks player to get into double figures with 17 points.
The game started evenly and the two sides matched each other well in the opening quarter. The scores were very close until a 7 – 0 run by Chicago put them ahead 23 – 17. The Knicks soon levelled the score but Chicago finished the quarter strongly, ending up on top at 29 – 25.
New York had an early 6 – 0 burst in the second quarter to level again but the period belonged to Chicago. They held the Knicks to just 19 points and scored 26 themselves, going into the halftime break up at 55 – 44.
The Knicks though came back strong after the break, to the joy of the expectant home crowd. New York attacked with gusto in the third period and piled on 31 points, shattering Chicago’s double digit lead and reducing it, by the end of the segment, to just 2 points at 77 – 75.
A fascinating final period followed as the game remained undecided right till the end. Chicago were able to get their noses just in front towards the end and Carmelo missed a 3-pointer that would have sent the game into overtime, giving the Bulls a narrow victory.
