Derrick Rose signs a five year maximum contract with Chicago Bulls – NBA Update
Chicago Bulls sensational point guard Derrick Rose has signed a bumper new deal with the franchise, it has been reliably learnt. The Bulls and Rose haven’t officially announced the development yet but Rose had hinted to the deal
after the pre-season game against the Indiana Pacers.
"It's something big, but I think I want to talk more about it (Wednesday) with my family and everybody being there," Rose said after the Bulls beat Indiana on Tuesday night. "But it's definitely something big."
Sources are now reporting that the contract has already been signed and a press conference is set for Wednesday to make the thing official. The deal is worth a whopping $94.8 million over 5 years.
Rose’s teammates have already spoken of their excitement at the young super star committing his future to the franchise.
"We're all very excited for him," Carlos Boozer, who top scored with 23 points in the Pacers game, said. "He deserves it. He puts in a lot of effort. I wish the contract was for 10 years."
Newly acquired veteran shooting guard Richard Hamilton also praised Rose, saying that a professional of his stature, at such a young age, was hard to find in the NBA.
"He works hard," Hamilton said. "He's young. He's 23 years old and the way he plays on the floor is the way he practices. In order to be great in this league, you just can't turn it on (during) games. He really has a great work
ethic."
Rose has exploded into stardom since coming into the NBA. A native of Chicago, the point guard has become the talisman the city has been waiting for since the retirement of Michael Jordan.
In just three years, Rose has achieved enormous feats. He won the Rookie of the Year award in his first year, made the All-Star team in his second and was named the NBA’s Most Valuable Player in his third, becoming the youngest
to receive the prestigious accolade in history.
His big pay day certainly seems well deserved, and the NBA actually inserted a clause, aptly name the “Rose Rule”, into the new Collective Bargaining Agreement that allows for achievements such as his to be rewarded by a max contract
right after the Rookie contract ends.
Derrick is the first person to benefit from the rule and looks set to dominate the NBA landscape and lead the Bulls to glory for years to come, earning millions more in the process.
