Derrick Rose worried about loss of basketball, not money – NBA News
The reigning league Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the face of Chicago Bulls, Derrick Rose, has expressed his concern at the loss of games due to the NBA lockout. The super star revealed he was more concerned about the damage being
done to basketball rather than that to his bank account, and expressed a desire to get back on the court as soon as possible.
"The biggest thing is you just want to get back out there and play," he said. "It's going to hurt us, but I think it's going to hurt basketball, period. Where we had a great year last year, and for us not to have a season this
year, or taking this long to come up with a deal, I think that's wrong."
The NBA locked out its players at the start of July, after the owners and players could not agree over a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Negotiations between owners and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA)
to resolve the differences have so far borne no fruit, resulting in the cancellation of first two weeks of next season’s NBA games.
With many suggesting players will be under pressure as pay check are lost, Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose said that was simply not a concern.
The NBA is coming off the best season in its history, with popularity and TV ratings high, as well as record revenue going into the coffers. Yet, a dispute over how to split the huge amounts of money coming their way has left the
owners and players at loggerheads, and the fans in the doldrums.
Derrick’s older brother, Reggie Rose, echoed the sentiments of the Chicago star.
Reggie said his only advice to Rose was winning and playing hard, saying money is always a secondary concern.
"He dreams, sleeps and he'll die for basketball," said Reggie Rose. "A lot of these guys are just worried about the financial part of it. He wants to get on the court and play. I like (to) tell him, 'Don't worry about the money.
Money's going to come if you win.' "
Derrick however is just one player. The majority of NBA players and owners are very interested indeed in the finances of the league. They understand that the NBA has become a huge money spinner, and both sides want as much of the
loot as they can get their hands on.
This, basically, is what the NBA lockout is all about.
