Derrick Williams, Jan Vesely: Top Small Forwards available in the NBA Draft 2011
5. Jordan Hamilton
Texas Longhorns’ small forward Jordan Hamilton can shoot the ball from different ranges which is the most dominating aspect of his game-play. Hamilton transformed himself into a complete player in the last season with the college
team and averaged 18.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
Rick Barnes, Texas coach said on his superstar, “He was going to prove to them that he was going to be a great teammate. He's done that. He's worked hard. He's really tried to work hard at the game. And personally I've enjoyed
watching him grow.”
Hamilton’s great rebounding skills, ability to pass the ball effectively and variety of ways to land buckets makes him a special pick in this year’s draft.
4. Chris Singleton
Florida State Seminoles’ big man Chris Singleton is absolutely dominant on both the offensive and defensive sides of the court as a result of his huge physique. The 6 feet 9 inches small forward can be a valuable asset for any
team in NBA who knows all the traits of basketball.
In the last year with the team, Singleton averaged 13.1 points and 6.8 rebounds as he has the potential to perform much better than that.
3. Kawhi Leonard
San Diego State Aztecs’ versatile small forward Kawhi Leonard is a combination of athleticism, size and agility. It’s very rare for a player to make quick shifts as Leonard does with the size of 6 feet and 7 inches.
Temple coach Fran Dunphy commended the game-play of Kawhi and said, "Leonard is a very versatile guy. He can step away from the basket, make shots. He is very good at posting up. He is good at running the floor. He is good at finishing
plays at the rim. He is a tough match-up."
Leonard keeps the momentum going for the team from both the ends and almost finishes with a double-double every time. His average of 15.5 points and 10.8 rebounds during the 2010-2011 season shows the extent of his abilities.
2. Jan Vesely
Jan Vesely from Adriatic League is one of the tallest guys in this year’s draft who has a great influence with his gigantic physique. He is a giant on the defence and lands easy buckets once he enters the paint of the opposition.
The problem with most of the tall players is that they cannot make quick shifts on the floor however Vesely is very athletic and runs well.
General Secretary of FIBA Nar Zanolin said on Jan, “He is that rare kind of player that can play in any position, a natural basketball talent."
1. Derrick Williams
The top ranked draft pick this year along with Kyrie Irving is Derrick Williams from University of Arizona Wildcats which puts him on the top of the list for small forwards as well. Williams is versatile, has a great understanding
of the game and most off all he is one of the best parameter shooters.
Many teams have their sights affixed on Derrick who has the potential to lead the side single-handedly.
