Derrick Williams, Kyrie Irving or Enes Kanter: Who will be NBA Rookie of the Year 2012? (Part-2)
Moving on though, we have yet much more talent in line, willing to prove themselves worthy of being the Rookie of the Year. The No 3 pick, Turk monster Enes Kanter is not far behind in the run. He has had a tremendous career playing
in the Turkish and the Euro League. His size, skills under the rim and ball handling have put him on the top of the European lot. In fact, before the draft there was a strong vibe that Kanter might actually be drafted as the number one pick. The Cavaliers
didn’t try him out twice for nothing.
And then Kanter has landed at Utah Jazz, a side devoid of any superstar. The Jazz are in a rebuilding phase and Kanter has an ideal opportunity to make his mark. He is bound to get good minutes and if he can make good on them,
the honour will be his for taking.
Another ‘strong’ prospect for the year’s best rookie is No 10 pick Jimmer Fredette. The 6ft-2in guard from Brigham Young University was drafted by the Sacramento Kings and is considered to be the next big thing, even by some veterans
like Kevin Garnett and Dwyane Wade. However, with a college career not exactly outstanding and young players like Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins already on the Kings roster, it seems unlikely he will get the chance to hold the ball much long. Although with
Fredette, you just never know.
Ricky Rubio could be yet another prospect. His arrival was awaited by the Timberwolves eagerly and now that he has finally arrived in the twin cities, the stage is all set for him to attain glory. Rubio’s dramatic draft brought
him in the limelight even before fans actually saw him play. He was the first player of the 1990’s decade to be drafted and at the age of 14, he was the youngest player ever, to play in the Spanish ACB League.
He was drafted fifth overall in the NBA Draft 2009, the very year in which he impressed the likes of Kobe Bryant and LeBron James in the FIBA tournament. Above all, Rubio has a opportunity to play alongside a young roster having
one of the best emerging power forward Kevin Love, potential All-Star Michael Beasley and 2011 Draft pick No.2 Derrick Williams. Although, Rubio failed to impress in the Spanish league last season, but if he can bring on his A game, he will not only make the
Wolves formidable but will also be hot contender for the Rookie of the year.
Along with Rubio, point guard Kemba Walker is also hopeful candidate to the rookie throne. Maybe not so right from the beginning, but Walker will eventually shine. The Charlotte Bobcats, Walker’s new home, are in the phase of rebuilding
their team and they can surely train and polish Walker to be the leading guard, next to guard D. J. Augustin, on the roster. Walker has played at the college level for three years and many analysts were surprised that he was drafted so low.
With the NBA Draft 2011 not even a week old, the curiosity of the fans regarding the next icon of the year is already building. Eager to see the newest faces around get into action, the fans can only sit back and talk about who
might turn out as the next rookie of the year.
