Derwen Pryde to stamp the second chance at Ffos Las in the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Mares’ Handicap Hurdle
Ffos Las will become home for the Class 4 Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Mares’ Handicap Hurdle on Monday, 23rd April over two miles and six furlongs. The £2,599 purse race has assembled a line-up of nine runners.
Derwen Pryde, Hazaaf’s eight-year-old bay mare out of mare, Landsker Pryde, broke into the season on 19th February at Ffos Las. She ended fourth in the Dunraven Stud Mares’ Handicap Hurdle.
The race was won by the 2/1 favourite, Cross The Flags while Al Shababiya settled as the runner up. Calico Rose stationed third behind the winner.
Third outing of the season and the second try at Ffos Las was in the Digibet.Com Handicap over three miles which was won by Sir Mattie. This time Derwen Pryde was driven down to the sixth position on the track of nine.
The runner up of the race was Mission Complete while the 2/1 favourite, Presented, parked fourth behind the winner.
Today Derwen Pryde is moving on for the fifth outing of the season coupled with a third try at Ffos Las. It is high time that she brings into use her racing experience at Ffos Las.
Another note worthy entry for the race is Am I Blue, Dubai Destination’s six-year-old bay mare out of mare, Seal Indigo. She is a potential threat for Derwen Pryde, having raced at Ffos Las twice during the previous season and striking a victory through
the first attempt.
Am I Blue won the Design Office Mares’ Handicap Hurdle on 25th April 2011 over two miles and six furlongs. While riding with Peter Carberry, she led the runner up, Giovanna, by six lengths.
The 3/1 favourite of the race, Definitley Lovely, ended fourth on the line-up of six.
Her next try at Ffos Las was in the Try Totequickpick On All Totepool Bets Handicap Hurdle on 25th August over two miles and four furlongs. This time Am I Blue could only manage the fourth position with six other racing.
The race was won by the 3/1 joint favourite, Drill Sergeant, while the runner up’s slot was taken by the other joint favourite.
The six-year-old has been unsuccessful in the two races that she became a part of during the new season. Both the races were at Hereford and change of venue might just be the factor that she was looking out for.
