  1. -The OFSTED reports---the reputation, how good the setting it, the learning etc.

-Friends and Families opinions-if someone has had negative experience it will put off new families.

-Opening times-some parents need all day, some want early mornings, late starts etc.

-The 'theory'-some parents prefer montessori, some Steiner etc.

-Cost is the main factor I think esp for parents on a budget-they are more likely to go to settings that are government funded than pay for education.

-The parents background-if parent didnt go to preschool they may not send their child as they may not see the benefit, if they went to childminders they may use this option as they had good experience...etc.

-Proximity-to work, to home, to family etc depending on their need.

  2. in a fairy tale world i would say quality and training of staff.  but in reality it's cost and how early/late they can have their kids there.  most parents don't want to have to deal with their own kids, they want others to do it for them.  most parents will sacrifice quality for cost.  sad.

  3. Unfortunately, probably the 2 that have the most influence on parents are (1) cost and (2) location (convenient to home and/or work).

I say unfortunately because other factors that should be most important are things like quality of care, safety, or qualified caregivers, but I have seen parents put children in childcare they're not all that happy with because it's close to home or work and/or it's all they can afford. :- (

  4. I would say the quality, I hope no one wants to put there child in a setting (even if its close to the house) in a center where the teachers aren't communicating and enjoying the children, daily activities, learning age appropriate tasks), a clean and inviting environment, open door policy (can you come to see your child anytime you want), the ratio is reasonable (student to teacher), if the turn over rate is high, and if the place is organized. Is the surroundings safe? Also hours of opration. After considering these important factors the price would be next.

  5. price and location. but i also look at how  well they keep up on the cleaning.  if it is dirty or smelly that tells me they don't care about health and sanitation. friendly, well intentional staff. they have to care and i need to see them interacting with my kids and how they treat them.

    hope this helps

  6. Reputation  &  Enrichment Activities (learning is going on there)

  7. as a parent, i considered the cost first, second is the methodology and principles of the preschool, and lastly is the location.

  8. Depending upon the region, deciding between a public pre-school or a private sitter can give you two very different and solid answers.  In a public/privately owned center I find that atmosphere and price greatly outweigh, in a private home setting, security and price are the factors....Good luck!  It seems to most usually come down to the family budget in the end.
