Describe a difficult problem you had to solve. What did you consider & do to solve the problem?

    Had  a manager that was alcoholic/drug dependent but very smart in a wily sort of way and no one could pin her on it. She could get very abusive - when there were no witnesses of course. I worked directly under her and had to motivate the rest of the staff somehow. What worked for me was to listen. They really needed support and understanding.

    I also encouraged them to do a good job for their own sake. Many wanted to slack off because good performance meant she got a bonus.

    She eventually decided that I too had become the enemy and had me transferred out, attempting to get me demoted as well. But my performance at the next site redeemed me.

    I wasn't completely OK for awhile, though. I was left with some pent up anger of my own that the next boss needed to let ME vent.

    I found out that if we don't clean out repressed anger, it comes up in other destructive ways. Passive-aggressive behavior, accidentally breaking things, bursts of inordinate anger & stress related illness
