People are going to have to interact appropriately all of their lives in order to be viable citizens. We have plenty of evidence that antisocial behavior is disastrous for human beings in every country in the world. In the year 2006 , the Justice Bureau announced that 2,245,189 people were held in State and Federal prisons. That doesn't account for county jails.

It is essential that children use play as a means of understanding and interacting with other people. Through playing together, through squabbling and settling disputes, they are practicing for the real world. It is essential that people supervising play activities with children be close by to help kids work through disputes in a fair way and to encourage and teach cooperation.

If you give very young children a bunch of costumes for various jobs, like policeman, fireman, doctor, nurse etc, they will play with these for hours and act out their perception of the job. They know they need to do this almost instinctively.

We have a woman in our building who never learned to cooperate. She brags that she, "runs with scissors and doesn't play nicely with others." She has been the bane of the existence of most people around her and she is universally despised. When a supervisory job came up, for which she was fully qualified and perhaps the best in her field, she did not make the cut because of her social behaviors.

Learning to interact, share, help and cooperate are some of the most essential skills a student will ever learn.
