  1. Wind is just air moving.  Air moves because something is out of balance.

This can be temperature, where one location is warmer than another.  If it is temperature, air will transport the warmer air to the area where it is colder.  So what you will end up would be a wind blowing from the warm area to the cold area.

Wind can also develop with a difference in density.  If you have more molecules in a given volume and another area where you have less molecules in the same given volume, what you will end up with is a difference in pressure.  The area with the higher density will have a greater pressure.  Nature will try to balance these two areas by moving air from the higher density area to the lower density area.  As a result, you will have wind blowing from an area with higher pressure to an area of lower pressure.

Given a certain distance between two air masses, if this temperature or density difference is big, you will have stronger winds.  If the difference is small, given the same distance again, than the winds will be lighter.
