  1. Soil Content: these following nutrients are essential for plants.  most ecosystems are limited by nitrogen and secondly phosphorus.

    Iron

    Molybdenum

    Physically, there must be enough water to enter the root and transport nutrients.  Also the plant needs water to survive.  organic soils carry more nutrients and can hold water better than sandy type soils.
