The country was run many years without violence under President Tito and hosted the 1984 Olymics. However tensions and ethnic supeririority were exploited under President Milosevich that Serbians be the ruling majority. In a time when the Russian Federation was weakened the economic conditions were bad and Serbian forces dispatched on break off countries wanting soveriegnty like Croatia a largly Muslim population but a minority felt the worst of that ethnic genocide. Bosnia Herzovogonia and and upper region were Catholics unlike the Greek Orthodox Serbian majority. The war was devastating and President Slobadon Milosevich was convicted of war crimes by tribunal and died of a heart attack some years later. The UN and United States presecnce there

did help arm and support the breakoff territories however the destruction,genocide, rape and torture by armed Serbian nationalists loyal to Milosevich can only be described as horrific. It was a long and bloody war and the economic impact is still being felt. People still loyal to Serbia as the ruling majority are have said to be responsiblr for the burning of the United States Embassy there this year. With Russia's invasion of Georgia..The Ukraine and Serbia could be up for grabs s it is rumoured the "Bear is out of Hibernation" and not happy with the west. If an event like this occured again it would be unlikely the United States or Europe will  notget involved due to the oil Russian is supplying to Europe as well as American's stretched military in Iraq ands Afghanistan. The Georgian people as well as what happened in the former Yugoslavia know think the United States is full of empty promises. The ethnic cleansing can be compared to Chenya in Russia. It boils down to two groups of people that feared and disliked each other quietly for many years but under Milosevich's deadly rule all h**l was encouraged to break loose on the regions wanting autonomy and seperation.
