Picture the setup of dominos on a table, when one of those dominos happens to fall, it bumps the next one and it falls bumping the next one and so forth untill they have all fallen, the domino theory is the same thing hence the name, one event happening leads to another and then another and so forth.

An aplication of this was during the cold war, the americans belived in the domino theory in asia, that if one country fell to communism, that it would spread and the rest would fall to communism, one after another untill asia had become communist.
