Describe the effect of --> i) a longer tube ii) a thinner tube <-- the difference of the sound produced?

  1. A longer tube will produce a lower pitched tone.  The longer tube means that a longer wavelength will resonate in it.  Longer wavelength = lower frequency at the same speed of wave travel, thus you get a lower pitch.  This however can be negated by the fact that you can get overtones to resonate as well, but this is equally possible in short tubes.

    A thinner tube will mean less air is resonating, so the sound will be quieter.
