  1. Make sure it is the type of key that can be duplicated.  Some keys can not be duplicated.  A locksmith can let you know.  You can take a key to Westlake, Walmart, etc. or sometimes your local tag agency for a copy.

  2.   First you get up out of bed (preferably in time to get there before they close). Then you might want to take care of all those nagging morning issues; you know the call of nature and what have you...no unwanted accidents for us...no sir bud! Now, since they normally don't take naked or scantly-clothed people seriously, you go ahead and get yourself dressed; nothing fancy, normal everyday clothes will do just fine. Don't forget the shoes. Remember: No Shoes, No Service. Breakfast might not be a bad idea either (most important meal of the day some say). Give your teeth a good brushing afterwards (brush up and down not side-to-side). Now you're about ready to go.

Go find that key you want duplicated. Make sure it's the right one and not that which unlocks your girlfriend's chastity belt (although having a spare of that one around, within easy reach, might not be a bad idea at times, it could be bad news if it happens to fall into the wrong hands ). Take that key and guard it safely and securely in your pocket. Your going to need it on you, as sure as a dropped slice of buttered bread will always hit the floor face down, when you get to the locksmith's. Grab your wallet, insure there's money in it, and you're about on your way. All you've got to do before you head on out is look up the guy's address in the yellow pages. It's always a good idea to know where we want to go before we just start driving all over town asking everyone; "How do I get to the nearest locksmith's? I've got a serious key duplication issue going on here! " Draw yourself a map if you think that will help. Make sure the dog has been walked and fed, (forget this if you don't have a dog, no need to walk nor feed the neighbors' dogs) turn off any unneeded lights and put out any open fires you might have burning in your house, close and lock the windows and lock the door behind as you leave.

When you get to the locksmith's he's going to ask you for the key you want duplicated. See, now aren't you glad you brought it with you? You go ahead and give it to this person, don't be scared s/he's a professional. S/he might ask you a complicated question, something like if you have a preference for color. Don't get flustered. A dupicate key dosen't "have to" be an "exact" duplicate, at least as far as colors go. (Isn't it an amazing age we live in?) Chose whatever color you like that is available.

Next you might want to plug your ears with your fingers. You are going to hear some nasty, scratchy, finger-nails-on-the-chalkboard kinda of grinding noises as this highly-trained craftsperson, soul among souls, brings all his/her skill to bear, cutting metal to his/her will in an effort to insure that the key you get is the key that you want. God bless them!

In less time than it takes to hand wash and wax your car, you'll have your bright, shiny and new, duplicate key! Now this highly-trained craftsman, soul among souls, is going to ask you for some money. See, now aren't you glad you brought some? Pay for the key and you're ready to head for home; use the map you brought if you drew one, execpt go backwards. Don't forget to say "Thank-you."

    3. wait while they copy it

    4. take your org. key home. and the duplicate key to the register.

    5. walk home

    6. put it in the door to see if it works.

7.if it work, (you know what to do from there)
