Describe the rise and fall of fascism in Western society between 1918 and 1945. What were the major features of fascist ideology? Why was fascism successful in so many places during the interwar period? Be sure to refer to both Italian Fascism and National Socialism in your answer.

    Basically - extremist parties rose because the devastation left after WW1 and The Wall Street Crash in 1929 meant some countries were experiencing a lot of economic/political/social problems (eg, Germany - hyperinflation, hatred of Treaty of Versailles)

    They turned to Fascism to help them out of the problems. It didn't work in Britain, France etc because they weren't as affected by everything as Germany was. As for Italy, it was all split up and confused so Mussolini was able to seize power without much effort.
