  1. It's doing quite the opposite. Every time someone sees the face of Jesus in a Cinnamon bun it makes national news. Hollywood makes all kinds of movies about the Devil, some of them quite good, to please their Christian audiences. The popular media has spread a belief in vampires and all sorts of c**p.

  2. Superstition isn't fact based.  It's a belief that fear keeps alive.  For media to decrease superstition, they would have to convince people to stop reacting to fear and the unknown ... which the media is guilty of perpetuating with it's constant gloom and doom stories.  Not all, but much of the news promotes reactionary thinking more than rational thinking.

  3. i agree with the first answer. i think if, anything, they are using it to their advantage. like this whole thing with the world ending. they always put that on GMA everytime people think its going to end, just to scare people into all that.

  4. It's the other way around.Though I disagree with the other answers. The media is secular to the core. They've created new superstitions for over 60 years. And they deride real history at every turn. This goes beyond news media and into mass media of all forms.
