  1. You could get real technical with this. The control group is the group of objects that normally do not have the experiment run on them. The sample size is the size of the group taken from the whole. Here: Assume 1000 people have a cold, and you want to try a new medication on them to see how it works. Your sample size could be 100 people, and of that 100 people, 10 people are your control group. Those 10 people will all do the same thing with the cold. The other 90 will try new medications and their improvement or deterioration will be measured against the 10. The sample size and control group affect the accuracy of scientific investigations.
