  1. In the middle of an apple you find 5 compartments ( called "carpels" ) of the ovary. Each carpel contains 1-4, mostly 2 seeds. The number of seeds is related to the health of the tree: healthier trees produce better fruit with more and larger seeds.

    Pollen stimulates the development of the seed, which in turn stimulates other parts of the fruit to develop.Good fruit set requires the pollination of at least six or seven seeds, and apples with a lot of pollinated seeds are usually larger in size.

    The seeds are covered by a brownish to black seed coat and contain nutrients like some proteins, little fat and some starch to feed the seedling.

    The content of growth hormones differs with status of maturity.
