  1. Lungs formed from outgrowths of the pharynx. Strong limbs and skeleton had to form in order to support movement outside of water. A complete pulmonary circuit for double circulation needed to form to plausibly take care of oxygen demands (systemic circulation serving the body, pulmonary circulation serving the lungs).

    In terms of brain development: the forebrain regulates the sense of smell, the midbrain regulates vision, and the hindbrain regulates hearing and balance; all three of those increased substantially. The spinal ganglia developed dramatically for reflex behavior.
