Young — V-shaped valley, deep, narrow and steep-sided, rather shallow water,

Middle — U-shaped valley, more open and wider valley floor, deeper water

Old Age — little valley if any - quite flat, broad floor and fairly wide flood plains, low ground, river is quite meandering
