  1. The first thing you need to do is make sure the activities you have for the children are stored on low shelfs so the children can get them out when they want them. It also helps to have everything needed for an activity on a tray.

Don't put too much out at one time. That allows the children to find what they want without being distracted by visual clutter.

Break big tasks into smaller pieces. For instance, instead of having a shoe tying lesson, just have making the first knot.

Give children REAL tasks to do. Let them cut soft foods like bananas or bread. Teach them how to use the toaster. Put the dishes and silverware they are going to need on the lower shelves in the kitchen. Make sure there is a small pitcher of milk or juice on a low shelf of the refrigerator.

Give them clothes that are easy to handle so they can dress themselves.

Hopefully this has given you a few ideas from which you can develop even more.

  2. 1. Provide non-fail activities such as painting/drawing.

    2. Placing equipment/toys at a low level where children can access independently.
