  1. Deserts and steppes are both considered "middle latitude" biomes.  Middle latitude means between 30°- 60°.  Steppes usually have a higher latitude than deserts.  Longitude has no effect on deserts or steps.

    60-90°  high

    30-60°  middle

    0-30°  low

    60-90° high
