Designated hitter David Ortiz likely to sign again with Boston Red Sox – MLB Update
According to different baseball sources, Boston Red Sox are willing to sign again veteran designated hitter David Ortiz to a two-year term worth approximately $25 million.
Boston Red Sox management recognises that David Ortiz, who has been playing in the franchise for past nine years, is certainly a good player and they will need him in the recent future.
This past Major League Baseball regular season was the last year on Ortiz’s previous contract with the Red Sox and now he is a free agent. Though yet no other team has showed interest to sign him but experts believe that if he decides to go somewhere else,
many teams will be interested to land him in their franchises.
Some recent reports are also suggesting that Red Sox and Ortiz will sign new deal potentially at the end of this week.
"As I said, we want to have David back, We've had good, amicable dialogue. I talked to Fernando (Cuza, Ortiz's agent) yesterday. We'll continue to keep talking. Our hope is to get something done. I'm sure we'll talk again this week sometime," Boston Red
Sox general manager Ben Cherington said on Tuesday and explained the situation regarding Ortiz and his new contract with the team he has already played for nine years.
GM Cherington added, “We’re not closing the door to someone who was here before.”
Previously on Sunday, Ortiz has also described in the media and told the reporters about his view seeking a new contract with the Red Sox, "I'm 36, and I know what I'm capable to do, I know what's fair and I know guys my age aren't going to get three-, four-
or five-year deals anymore, so I want to play two more, and if things go good, I'll continue to play."
David Ortiz finished this regular season achieving hitting average of .318 along with 23 home runs, 60 RBIs and .415 OBP while his 15-year career hitting average of .285 along with 401 home runs, 1326 RBIs and .380 OBP also makes a good role player in the
biggest baseball league in the world.
