Question:

Desktop Computer won't start after installing new video card?

I have an ATI Radeon X-Press 200 Video Card that came with my computer. It is connected to my motherboard so I can't take it out. I recently bought a Geforce 8600 GT Video Card and tried to install that into my computer. When I put the Video Card in and turn on the computer, the fans and everything start up but nothing comes on to my monitor. I've tried uninstalling all the ATI drivers but it still doesn't help. When I take out the graphics card, the computer works fine, but as soon as I put it in, it doesn't work.

  1. Have you tried keeping the video card in the computer but using the built in video card Im betting you need to set up the device drivers for the video card before it will work properly make sure that your bios will let you use the port for the card sometimes you have to enable the AGP port in the bios to get it to work or you could possible have a bad video card I know its new but it could be a lemon

  2. The board type and slot type are the same?

Make sure that the board is firmly seated all the way into the slot.  If not firmly seated it could cause the problem.

Are you plugged into the correct board with the monitor?  Try the other one if nothing comes on the screen.

  3. if you are not getting display then from your new AGP card then sure there is problem with your card.... but just make sure you have plugged the monitor cable into the AGP card or else u gota replace the card

  4. Take the new card out.

If the system boots - everything is fine. Goto the BIOS when the system starts (usually by pressing F2, or del as the system is POSTING), then disable the onboard video card. Turn off the system, reinstall the new card - and everything should boot fine.

Some systems also have a physical jumper you may have to switch to get the system to disable the onboard video - refer to your motherboard or computer manual.
