Desktop computer suddenly will not work?

My daughter was using her computer, then it locked up. so she pressed the reset button and now it will not turn back on. It will not boot to the post screen so I can go into the bios. I usually build computers and fix them myself but this one has really stumped me. I have changed the motherboard (2nd hand), memory and even changed cases, tried on my monitor and changed power supplies but still does not work. Can anyone help.

  1. Well, you could have purchased "DOA" dead on arrival, replacement parts. If it doesn't turn on at all, I would start with the PSU.

If the fans turn on but you dont hear any beep codes, the CPU could be bad.  If the computer powers on but doesn not post, check to see if the CPU gets hot. If the CPU gets hot then it is processing information.

    Good Luck.

  2. If the fan doesn't start when you turn on the computer is sounds like the power in .....try making sure the power lead is in fully and/or swap it for the screen lead that way checking the fuse.If this is ok then remove the bios battery from the motherboard and try a new restart...... I have the same problem with mine where the motherboard has damaged the power unit ant i have brought another power unit and its done the same to that so i've decided the cheapest option now is to get another motherboard

    good luck

  3. Anti surge fuse?

  4. fuse?

  5. Try to boot from a bootable CD e.g windows Cd. by pressing f10 or f8

    when starting up.

perform repair or you can probably format your machine with that operation, you can use a datarecovery software to recover files or data you need e.g.

www.recuva.com No need to change motherboard

let us know your machine brand/model.

fuse is another thing to deal with

  6. Obviously you could have changed one dud part for another so you can't rule anything out but the only things left to consider are the Hard disk (try it in another computer perhaps), graphics card and processor

  7. Since you have swapped out the mobo, memory, case & PSU that only leaves the drives, CPU & add on cards.

Unplug the drives, remove all the cards (except graphics - have you got a different one to try?), clear the BIOS by its jumper & try again. If it still don't work then it's the CPU (or the graphics card if you couldn't swap it)
