Desktop.ini, thumbs.db what are these on my folders?

I saw some extra hidden files in my folders desktop.ini; thumbs.db. Are these harmful to my Computer?

  1. No they are not harmful.  They are system files.  Thumbs.db is located in picture folders where you view the pictures by thumbnail.  desktop.ini is a system file that tells Windows how to display a folder.


  2. Thumbs.db is a thumbnail cache is a file used to store thumbnail images for Windows Explorer's thumbnail view. This speeds up the display of images as the smaller images do not need to be recalculated every time the user views the folder.

    Desktop.ini  is a file useful in customizing Folders. If it's in your "autostart" folder, then it's there just to customize this folder.
