Icaught a virus and my P.C. has been put back to factory settings I have been told I have lost all my pictures and document. this is very distressing because some of these were from my late son. If there is any way I could retrieve them I would be very grateful to find out how to do this. Many Thanks

  1. If you go to the Computeractive website there are some unerase programmes (free trial) that you can use to try and restore the photo`s.

Otherwise you will need to have the unerase done by a professional tech

      http://www.computeractive.co.uk/

  2. Unfortunately when a hard drive has been formatted and windows reinstalled it's very unlikely you can recover anything there reasons are

1 formatting makes it difficult to recover anything but it's not impossible

2 when windows was reinstalled the chances are that the sectors on the hard disk holding the old files were written over

3 the more the computer has been used the less chance of any recovery  because of files being written over

the only chance you have is to try some data recovery software which can be downloaded off the internet such as "Recover My Files" which can be downloaded here http://www.recovermyfiles.com/ good luck and all the best at recovering your lost files

  3. I'm sorry to hear this but there are a few things you could use as discussed here http://www.webhostingtalk.com/archive/in...

It seems that the trial ones will show you or tell you what they have managed to recover but only let you access the media when you pay.

I haven't come across a free one yet but I'm still looking for you and will edit this if I find one.

EDIT: Here's a free one, I'd have a read up on it before using it. http://www.freewaremission.com/2008/05/r...

    Good luck.

  4. Sorry, but after a re-format, and reinstall of the OS all has been lost.  If you have not used the computer since the reinstall, there is a possibility that this data could be recovered, but that will be fairly expensive.

It is for reasons like this that we do "backups" to external drives or medium.

  5. the others are right to offer info on "recovery programs .

but try this~in search type "pictures" click on all files and let it run it may take 1 hour +.this will find and list all the pictures on your PC hope fully it will find some of your lost ones as well.

hope this helps ~do it before you do anything else on your PC which may overwrite the pics you are looking for.

    all the best good luck.
