  1. I would like to help you but most programs are state and county run, what state and/or county are you from.

  2. I can tell you this by law your son has every right to attend school and also the school is responsible to accommodate his needs . My brother went throw this and fought them and they had no choice but to accommodate his twin sons about help GM here in lordstown ohio helped out alout by having all kinds of events to raise money for them also they were on Oprah and she helped out so what I'm saying dont give up on your son FIGHT for his rights . If you have a large corp near you get in contact with them they will more than likely help due to they ll use the publicity

  3. Home school until you can find better community support. Network with other moms in the area via the internet.

  4. A. You do NOT have to shop at an expensive health food store. Your local grocery store has items your son can eat. If you make food instead of buying prepared you can do feed him cheaply. I have a friend whose youngest child is allergic to wheat, soy, milk, eggs and peanuts. She shops at a Walmart superstore using her food stamps and i guarantee her 6 yr old is NOT starving. The school probably will not heat his food because of the legal liability issues with them heating or cooking foods they do not prepare. You could try packing cold salads and cold rice dishes for him to eat instead. I would try talking to some local agencies or your son's doctors about possible resources for supplies for special projects if you can not afford them. With the budgets schools are running on i am not surprised they are asking you to provide what he needs.

  5. Local churches, your own church, United Way or ask family services (where the food stamps were applied for) for other charity organizations.

  6. OK you are clearly overwhelmed.

1st Find a Support Group. Whether it is online or in your local area. There are many people out there with food allergies. I am one of them. THIS IS IMPORTANT! The more people you meet the more ideas and resources you have!

2nd take a deep breath. Think about the things you can control. You can control what he eats and uses. The fact that you are on food stamps does not make it easy. I am sure you are using an expensive health food store locally. Ask them if you order bulk of something can you get a discount. Also use the internet. It is a great resource for shopping, and advice.

3rd make sure he is VERY aware of his allergies. If he knows the things he can cannot have he is less likely to make a mistake when you are not around.

I don't have a solution for the school issue. Does the school have parents help out at lunch? or does his teacher care at all? Some teachers if asked (or begged) will quietly help out. Just tell her that you will make sure everything is taken care of except for the heating of the food. Maybe she can go warm it up in the faculty lounge.

  7. you need to get him under a good specialist to help with his eczema. Then you need to look around at other schools that will accommodate your son. You need a school that will work with you not against you.

  8. I have no expertise to offer in this matter but prayer and encouragement.  Being a mother isn't easy and combine that with an extenuating situation, it seems overwhelming.  I do not know what your beliefs are but it doesn't matter for I will believe for the both of us.  Since I know that prayer is our most powerful weapon against what seems impossible, I will pray that the answers you seek and the help you need will unfold for you as you journey through this very difficult time.  H85 and Yvette F seemed to have the best suggestions so far.

  9. you have to tell the doctor about the problem that you are having and you can ask him to write you a letter so that you can take to the food stamp agency where they will evaluate the results.
