  1. SInce you are under the age of 18, your student ID will work. It might not be a bad idea to also carry your birth certificate. But... do get a US Passport, as soon as possible, for any future trips - makes traveling, even in the US, so much easier.

You might also want to visit the TSA site and print a copy of the page... just in case.

Have a good trip - you'll be fine.

    Following from TSA,gov:

Beginning on May 26, 2008, adult passengers (over the age of 18) will be required to show a U.S. federal or state-issued photo ID that contains the following: name, date of birth, gender, expiration date and a tamper-resistant feature. These IDs include:

    U.S. passport

    U.S. passport card

DHS "Trusted Traveler" cards (NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST)

    U.S. Military ID

    Permanent Resident Card

    Border Crossing Card

    DHS-designated enhanced driver's license

Drivers Licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent) that meets REAL ID benchmarks (All states are currently in compliance)

A Native American Tribal Photo ID

An airline or airport-issued ID (if issued under a TSA-approved security plan)

A Registered Traveler Card (that contains the following: Name; Date of Birth; Gender; Expiration date; and a Tamper-resistant feature)

  2. The TSA does not require persons under the age of 18 to have a government-issued ID.  You will be fine with your school ID -- there's no need to get a state ID or bring things like your social security card and birth certificate (which is, frankly, ludicrous advice).

  3. Yes you can go to the Air Tran desk when you check in and they will look at your id and then security will check you through.

Bring your birth certificate and social security card with you and any other proof you have that you are who you say you are-you should not have a problem.  Get to the airport to the airport early to handle this matter- though at least an hour earlier than usually suggested - better to be early and sitting than to have the flight leave without you.

I traveled with my son who was 18 and he had no state issued id and we had no problem and it was on Air Tran from New York to Florida and back.  Good Luck

  4. As long as you take along a certified copy of your birth certificate and your picture ID from school you will be fine. I suggest you call Airtran and let them know how old you are and that you will have a student ID so that they can add the information to your record so you can get on smoothly with no problems
