Despite being omitted, Zack Greinke has hopes for All-Star Game – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers' starter Zack Greinke on Tuesday, July 3, stated that he does not consider himself snubbed after he could not make into the All-Star Game. The starter who has maintained an impressive record this season was expecting to be the part of the All-Star roster this year.
Much as the National League would feel emboldened and powerful with his selection for the All-Star Game, there is no denying the fact that it is one of the best pitching sides to descend on the ballpark.
That is what Greinke also acknowledged while talking to the press. The starter comprehensively shed light on what he thought of it and the NL All-Star team.
"I thought depending on how many relievers made it, [I would have a chance]," Greinke said. "There's so many good starters this year -- there's half a dozen that have done just as well as the guys that made it, so I can't really complain. The starters this year, it's got to be the best in the last 20 years, I don't know. Maybe the last 30 years. It's pretty amazing."
Greinke, has a 3.08 ERA this season with 9-2 record, outrivaling a lot of starters in the Division. Despite the strength, ability and force to be a part of All-Star team, Greinke admitted there were some other good pitchers all qualified to make it there.
"I wanted to make the team, but it's not an easy job picking," Greinke said. "Cueto has pitched great. There's other guys who have pitched great, too.”
Nonetheless, even though he was not lucky enough this year as far as the big game is concerned, he still has hope for possibly being a replacement.
His other team-mates have successfully gotten elected for it. One of the finest things to note here was that Greinke did not complain for being omitted from the list. Maintaining some professional grace, the starter has rather struck an optimistic hope that he would be, if luck would have it, a replacement should any pitcher go unfit.
Whatever transpires at the end, Greinke will certainly keep his fingers crossed for something better for him in the days ahead.
