Question:

Despite doctors diagnosis... I'm still worried, help?

I went to the optometrist and had my eyes checked about a month ago. I've told him that I had black out episodes in my vision as well as colours flashing and blurry vision. He checked them and said it was migraine pain and I was alright... I don't get migraines... so that threw me off.

Now my eyes seem to be getting worse. They are aching right now and yesterday my left eye was blurry all day making it difficult to read. My health coverage only pays for one eye exam in 1 1/2 years...

am I making a big deal? or should I be worried?

  1. Hi,

Do you see some floating praticles in your visual field?

Are the flashes of light seen only in a specific region or direction?

For how long does the black-out affect you? its only for a few seconds or for minutes?

    Are you on a diet?

Does the black-out episode occur when you change your position esp if you are sitting and u suddenly stand?

    Your eyes are very precious.

  2. You should make an appointment with your family doctor. Your symptoms may be caused by pressure on your optic nerve.

  3. If you are concerned then see an ophthalmologist which is an MD. More often then not, they are more qualified for a potentially difficult diagnosis. Not to say there aren't any good optometrists out there. There are such things as ophthalmic migraines, google it. They are usually visual related and don't create pain like a head ache associated migraine. Some do create a head ache at the tail end of it. When it happens sitting quietly in a dark room may help resolve it.  See the doctor though for a proper diagnosis.

  4. Take no risks.  See your GP, who should refer you to an eye specialist.  Your GP wont be able to make a diagnosis and, even if you get the bum's rush for a consultant, it will be worth it for peace of mind.  Your symptoms could be a sign of a detached retina or just age (you don't say how old you are) but it's never worth taking a chance.

  5. go to a different optometrist....the one you went to is on crack.

  6. Start with your GP (general doctor you see for normal stuff).

Then maybe get a referal to a neurologist who can make a diagnosis of migraines (or not).

It could be a detached retina or glaucoma (did they examine for that, or even look at your retina?).  However,  there are people who have migraine symptoms, such as visual or nausea, but without any headache pain!

  7. I agree, a second opinion is necessary!!

  8. You need to go to a regular dr... I prefer a D.O. or  get references for a good naturopath that knows what minerals and vitamins you are lacking so you can get help for that. Are you making a big deal? Its your sight, the only eyes you will ever have, so I so would say h**l no. And yes you should be worried.
