Despite losing, Martin Whitmarsh congratulates Red Bull team
Despite all the rivalry and animosity between Red Bull Racing and the McLaren team, Martin Whitmarsh was among the first few people to congratulate Red Bull racing. The Austrian team wrapped up the 2010 Constructors’ Championship yesterday (Sunday) at the
Brazilian Grand Prix.
While talking to the media just a while ago, the McLaren team principal announced that he is happy for the Austrian team and had been one of the first few people to praise the sheer hard work of Christian Horner, the Red Bull team boss.
Whitmarsh declared that despite the on-track rivalry, both the leading teams of the sport hold a profound respect for each other and he is impressed with the way Horner has groomed and elevated the team in just six years.
Both the teams have fought a very close battle all through the season and the top places in both the Drivers’ as well as the Constructors’ Championship has been exchanged between the two for most part of the season. However, now with only one more race to
go the constructors’ title has already been bagged by the Red Bull Racing whereas the drivers’ title also seems almost unachievable for the British team now.
Still, while talking to the media soon after the Brazilian round, last evening (Sunday) Whitmarsh said, "The battle for the constructors' world championship came to a finish today - and the victors were Red Bull Racing. Although in some ways it goes against
the grain for me to say so, because our ethos at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes is that winning is all, it's always refreshing when a new constructor's name is etched onto that famous trophy. So, on behalf of all at Woking, I'd like to offer congratulations to
all at Milton Keynes".
Moreover, the team principal also paid tribute to the title defender Jenson Button, for having fought a brave battle all through the season. The hopes of Button for a consecutive title ended last night at the same arena, Interlagos, where he secured the
championship of 2009.
While talking to the press earlier today Whitmarsh said that the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, has had a brilliant maiden season with Button and they are looking forward for many superb seasons in the years to come.
He further concluded saying, "Lewis, by contrast, is one of four drivers who are still in contention for this year's drivers' world championship - and, although he faces a very tough task in order to prevail, he'll definitely be giving it everything he's
got in Abu Dhabi in his efforts to become world champion for the second time in his career”.
