Despite offseason issues, Texas Rangers’ Michael Young to appear in training – MLB News
As all of the offseason drama concerning Michael Young wanting to be traded from the Texas Rangers due to him being unhappy with the team downgrading his position will all have to be put on hold as he is supposed to report for Spring Training camp.
He is supposed to report to training camp for the full team workout sessions. Although he has asked to be traded, he still has to participate in the spring workout sessions until the issue is resolved. The team will be looking for some sort of resolution
as Spring Training is beginning and the focus should be on the field and not off the field.
The Rangers understand the importance of Young to the team and his influence with the other players. All out efforts are being made by the Rangers to work out the issues that Young apparently has with the organisation. However, if Young is still interesting
in being traded, efforts to work something out are also being discussed.
"We have been told that he is coming to camp and we're expecting him tomorrow," Rangers’ general manager Jon Daniels said.
Although the Rangers are rather tight-lipped over the entire situation, sooner or later Young will be approached by the media circus that is present during Spring Training.
One thing is for certain and that is the fact that Young has asked to be traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Angels, St. Louis Cardinals, Colorado Rockies or the New York Yankees. However, it seems that the Rangers
are having a difficult time as his $48 million salary is making it hard for a suitable trade option.
Most experts feel that the issue will eventually be worked out between Young and the Rangers, as the player realises the difficulties involved in trading him to another team. Also the fact that Young has spent 11 seasons with the Rangers, it is very unlikely
that he will want to throw out his long term relationship with the Rangers.
As Spring Training is beginning, the Rangers will be hoping to resolve issues with Young as soon as possible so that they can conduct their workout sessions and focus on the actual task at hand, being a productive season and hopefully a post-season appearance.
Young is an immensely talented player that the Rangers do not want to lose and they will do whatever it takes to retain him in the squad as the regular season is just around the corner. It will be interesting to see what decision Young takes in the next
few days as the Rangers are still looking into his request to be traded.
