Despite penalty, Woodacre having strong claims in Severn Valley Catering Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race at Uttoxeter
With A. P. McCoy on the back, Woodacre has bright chances of defying the penalty in his comeback appearance at Uttoxeter on Wednesday, September 12th.
After staying out of action for nearly three months, Richard Whitaker’s charge is all set to resume his journey with a bang in the Severn Valley Catering Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race, which will start at 17:25 GMT.
The 2-mile race has attracted 15 entries, including Woodacre. The going is good to firm for the class 6 meeting, which has a prize of £1,365 for the winner. With many dangerous horses locking horns, an exciting battle is on the cards.
Woodacre performed superbly before taking a break. He started off this season on a high in May, when finding only Wake Your Dreams too strong in the Calverts Carpets York Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race at Market Rasen.
An excellent performance at the start of the season gave him plenty of motivation. Owned by Mrs R. M. Whitaker, the bay gelding raised his game to ensure a classy win in the Free Radio Standard National Hunt Flat Race (Conditional Jockeys' And Amateur Riders'
Race) at Hereford in mid June.
On good to firm, he led three furlongs before the wire, and retained his advantage until the end. With the help of an impeccable effort in the hands of Kyle James, Woodacre notched up the first rank by half a length.
After a couple of very fine acts early in the season, the maverick runner is full of momentum. A break would have also helped him get fresh. So, there is no reason why he should not put up a fine show.
Out of others, Omani Rebel looks to be the strongest one. Alan Lamont’s trainee made a promising debut here in July, when he beat Rex Appeal by a short head’s distance in the Ladies At Races Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race. Although the ground is slightly
firmer this time, no one can rule the 4-year-old out of the equation.
Omani Rebel surely has a significant role to play, but Woodacre is in such an excellent form that he is unlikely to face any difficultly.
