Despite the damage done by the storm, the Greenbrier Classic will go ahead as scheduled
Rising temperatures and thunder storms all around, surely not a good time to have a golf tournament. Last Friday, there were heavy storms on the East coast and quite a bit of damage was done.
The AT&T National was also disrupted by the storm on Friday and speculations were that the Greenbrier Classic might be delayed.
However, the tournament organizers have clearly stated that, despite the damage done by the storms, the tournament will go underway as scheduled. Good news though for the fans and the players all around.
The players at the tournament are scheduled to tee off this Thursday. Last week, after the storm on Friday, there were about 80 plus trees that had fallen on the golf course.
More than 200 trees were damaged in total, but the tournament organizers were in no mood to postpone the event.
“The Greenbrier Classic 2012 will start on schedule and go off without a hitch,” said Jim Justice. “It is really special to see how everyone has come together over the past 48 hours”.
The authorities, along with the volunteers from the near vicinity, have worked endlessly so that the event kicks off on time.
The storm damaged the spectators’ area as well as the camera towers. Temperatures are expected to rise as the event moves on. Meanwhile, showers are expected on the Thursday and Friday of this week as well.
Over all in the area, there was no power, as quite a bit of damage was done to the grid stations all along the coast.
Nevertheless, people have worked hard to make this tournament a big success. The people of West Virginia dedicated their precious time to the golf course, working day and night to make sure that the course is ready for the Greenbrier classic.
“We have had hundreds of volunteers and tournament vendors working with our staff in the cleanup effort as we get ready for The Greenbrier to be thrust onto the national stage for The Greenbrier Classic”.
“It fills me with pride to know that the people of West Virginia are donating their precious time to the tournament, while many of them are without power and dealing with damage of their own,” said the Chairman of Greenbrier, Jim Justice.
The latest news from the authorities is that Old White TPC Course in White Sulphur Springs will be ready to host the 2012 Greenbrier Classic on time.
