Despite winning the Stanley Cup, Claude Julien vows to maintain similar approach next season–NHL Updates
Boston Bruins’ coach, Claude Julien, might have given Bruins its first Stanley Cup in 39 years but that will certainly not defer him in his approach to coaching the team as he vowed to maintain his style and not change anything.
Many teams tend to become overconfident after winning the Stanley Cup and struggle to even reach the playoffs the next season.
This was the case with Chicago Blackhawks. After winning the 2010 championship, Hawks barely even made it to the playoffs and was eliminated in the first round against Vancouver Canucks.
"The one thing I can tell you is whatever way they see me as, I’ve always said that I will never change as a person", Julien said on Sunday during a season-ending news conference.
Unlike other coaches who’ve had better upbringing, Julien maintains his background as being a modest and humble one. Instead of showing himself as proud and powerful, the 51-year-old appreciates all that he has experienced and the memories he has gained.
"So I came up from a modest background and I've always tried to remain modest. I'm appreciative for everything that has happened to me in my career, more than I would have ever expected", Julien added.
It certainly was a tougher postseason than anyone could have imagined. Julien faced three game-seven series against some of the toughest teams in the league, including Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning and finally, Vancouver Canucks.
At one point in the final series against Vancouver, Boston had lost all hope of making a comeback and it was Julien’s strategic thinking and cool natured personality that helped Bruins through these times.
Julien might not have had the National Hockey League (NHL) career that he was hoping for when he selected to play with Quebec Nordiques.
He played for two seasons and only a total of 14 games, but has had a successful coaching career so far.
It was under his leadership that Boston Bruins finally made its second finals’ appearance in 21 years and because of him, the players were also polished just enough to make them the 2011 NHL champions.
