Destinee Hooker becomes the Most Valuable Player for US – Volleyball News
Destinee Dante' Hooker, who is a prominent players on the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team and plays at the outside hitter’s (OH) position, was recently named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the 2011 FIVB World Grand Prix.
Hooker started her career in the NCAA and turned many heads with her wonderful performance. Later on, she turned professional and became a part of the national team. She was part of the American team which participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
With the passage of time, Hooker grabbed more attention and emerged as a key player in the American team. She appeared at the World Grand Prix in 2010 for the first time.
Quite recently, the brilliant U.S. Volleyball Star was interviewed by Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) website, where she disclosed a great secret of her career. She revealed that her sister Marshevet was the first person, who actually inspired
her to play volleyball. Marschvet is Destinee's older sister and is a famous track and field athelete. In the current year, Marschvet helped the U.S. team to gold in the women’s 4x100m relay race at the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF)
World Championship.
Hooker said that they used to play volleyball together at a young age. She always admired her sister’s sports skills and wanted to be like her in more ways. That was how she started playing volleyball and finally developed a great interest in the challenging
sport. Talking about the early days, she said: “I became a volleyball player from watching my sister since she was in high school, the 23-year old said. She was my idol so I wanted to be just like her and that’s what led me to volleyball.”
Hooker has worked very hard to earn a good reputation among her team members. She has many achievements in her career and intends to continue playing volleyball as a professional. Describing her best moment, she stated, “My best day of my career was when
[USA coach] Hugh McCutcheon subbed me in against the Dominican Republic in the 2010 World Grand Prix and then finding out the next day when we played Germany that he started me."
